Report: Sony brings in Morgan Stanley, Citigroup to consider division split

Sony has reportedly employed financial services corporations Morgan Stanley and Citigroup to research a potential split of the firm’s entertainment division from its electronics sector.

A report out of Bloomberg cites statements from people familiar with the matter,” following word that Sony was considering the same plan earlier this month. At the time, CEO Kazuo Hirai said that the board would "come to a decision that represents Sony’s stance."

Representatives from all three companies have thus far declined to comment on the report.

All PlayStation business currently falls under the umbrella of the entertainment division, so a separation from electronics would mean a heavier reliance on the property to consistently perform.
