There is no VR Half-life game, HTC chairwoman ‘misspoke’

Half-life VR is not real. Half-life 3 has not been announced. For many gamers today has effectively eradicated their reason for being.

There was tremendous excitement among Half-life’s criminally underserved fan base yesterday when HTC chairwoman Cher Wang said that the company, which is making Steam’s virtual reality headset, said that the company was co-operating with [Valve on] Half-life” and that she hoped” the game would be released for the hardware.

This seems not to be the case, however.

"Regarding my BBC interview with Dave Lee yesterday, I would like to apologise for any confusion caused when I referred to individual games titles," she has now told the organisation. "In response to a question on specific games, I misspoke when I referred to our working together with Valve on a particular game, when instead I meant our collaboration with Valve on developing next-generation virtual reality experiences for gaming.

"I am very excited about the work we are doing with Valve, and look forward to bringing our HTC Vive to market later this year."

On top of this, there was also some excitement yesterday over a Valve gathering at GDC yesterday scheduled for 3pm. On the 3rd day of the 3rd month of 2015. Three 3s. HALF-LIFE 3!

Or not. As alluded to by MCV yesterday, a technical talk entitled ‘Physics for Game Programmers: Physics Optimization Strategies’ did sadly not prove to be Valve’s platform of choice to announce one of history’s most anticipated ever games. Who would have thought?
