Trine franchise hits 7m sold

Finnish indie developer Frozenbyte has announced the titles in its co-op puzzle platformer series Trine have combined to sell more than 7m copies.

The milestone accounts for Trine and Trine 2 units sold across Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Android, PS3, PS4, Wii U and Xbox 360 platforms.

To mark the occasion, Frozenbyte is releasing user-creation tools as a free update for those who own either Trine 2: Complete Story or the relatively recently released Trine: Enchanted Edition.

"Players can now do the same things to Trine or Trine 2 as the developers," the developer explained. "They can edit existing maps to their liking, create entirely new ones from scratch, or even create a completely different game."

"Opening up the games to user-generated content is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and we’re thrilled to see what people can come up with using the editors," Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvrinen stated.

Trine originally debuted on Windows PC, before later receiving release on PSN, Mac and Linux, while Trine 2 is available on Windows PC, Mac, Linux, Android, XBLA, PSN and Wii U via the eShop.

Trine: Enchanted Edition is also out now on PC, as well as in development for PS4 and Wii U – the version ports the original game to the sequel’s engine and adds online multiplayer.
