Ubisoft defends Watch Dogs on PC, says patch is incoming

The graphics technical director of Watch Dogs has defended the state of the game on PC and confirmed that it is working on a patch to ease the problems.

Watch Dogs can use 3+ GB of RAM on next-gen consoles for graphics,” Sebastien Viard said on Twitter. Your PC GPU needs enough VRAM for ultra options due to the lack of unified memory. If you experience lag/stutter on a fast PC, try to lower one of those settings to reduce the GPU VRAM usage: texture quality, AA, resolution.

Making an open world run on NG & CG consoles + supporting PC is an incredibly complex task, the team did a fantastic job. Congrats guys! Our PC programmers are also currently working on a patch to improve your experience thanks to your reports. Stay tuned.”

PC gamers have been in uproar about not only the game’s technical requirements but also a host of issues, most notable of which is the stuttering that occurs during driving and the inconsistency of the framerate. There doesn’t seem to be a simple fix, as even scaling down the settings – as suggested by Viard – doesn’t solve the issue for many.

Critics are particularly irate as reproducing the visual fidelity found on PS4 seems to require PC specs far in excess of those housed in Sony’s machine.

Some outletshave even recommended that players avoid the PC version until such issues are addressed.

Add to that all the problems surrounding uPlay since the game’s launch and the pressure is on Ubisoft to resolve the issues quickly.
