Dallas Cowboys owners buys into CompLexity

In what is a growing trend, Jerry Jones, the owner of American football team Dallas Cowboys, has acquired a majority stake in esports outfit CompLexity Gaming,

CompLexity co-founder and CEO Jason lake will remain on board and retain a minority interest in the company, although fellow co-founder Jason Bass has sold his stake and left the company.

CompLexity’s management, Counter Strike and Dota 2 teams will up sticks and relocate to the Cowboys’ Texas HQ, at which a construction of a “state-of-the-art operations centre” will soon begin.

Jones has teamed up with property investor John Goff for the move. ESPN reports that it is the passion for esports held by Goff’s son Travis, who is the VP of Goff Capital, that kick-started the interest.

Jones’ son Stephen, who is Cowboys COO, also confessed that the team were at one stage approached about competing in the upcoming Overwatch League, but opted out due to their lack of esports experience at that moment in time.

"The growth in professional gaming is incredibly significant. We are proud to be stepping into this space with John Goff," Jones said. "The synergies here are endless and I’m confident our resources will continue the growth of Complexity for years to come."

Lake added to ESPN: "I have devoted the majority of my adult life to esports, and it was very important for me to find the right group to partner with. It definitely took longer than I originally hoped, and I’m glad I was patient and waited out for this specific group. I’m confident that our aligned goals are going to result with one of the world’s most compelling esports team, and I’m super excited to be able to compete on a financial field once again."
