VIDEO: Harmonix reveals F2P musical shooter Chroma

Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix is to try its hand at the shooter genre.

The studio has announced a new free-to-play musical themed shooter called Chroma for the PC which is being co-developed with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive studio Hidden Path Entertainment.

Player movement and weapons will generate music, while the game arenas themselves will also alter depending on the current musical track. The visual style looks very Tron-like.

F2P options will revolve around customisation with Harmonix promising that there will be no pay-to-win mechanics.

‘Change Ups’ at major musical moments dramatically alter the landscape of the battlefield in real time both physically and strategically, raising sniper towers, adding cover, and more in sync with the music,” the studio said.

Free-to-play, but not pay-to-win – free to jump in and play with deep customisation, but smartly designed to preserve a fun and fair experience for all players.”
