Wii U loophole granted forumite access to debug menu

A member of video games forum NeoGaf appears to have found an OS loophole that grants access to Wii U’s debug menu.

The ‘hack’ is no longer available though after Nintendo seemed to quickly issue a fix.

Forum user Trike claimed that he was able to access one of the Miiverse’s back-end admin menus by simply pressing X at a specific point in the system’s menu. Powers unearthed included the ability to delete other’s user accounts.

Also breached were internal messages from developers and Nintendo staff that included mentions of unannounced games – specifically Yoshi’s Island U and Soul Hackers. IP such as Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil were also referenced.

There is currently no suggestion that users’ personal details have been compromised.

The Wii U went on sale in North America over the weekend.
