Majority of workforce gone, though the Australian studio has not closed

Fuzzyeyes confirms mass-layoffs

South Brisbane-based independent studio Fuzzyeyes has axed the “majority” of its workforce, citing money problems and legal issues.

It is thought that the studio had around 50 staff before money problems hit.

A statement issued by the firm’s CEO says that staff has been reduced to a skeleton crew, as previously thought, yet the studio remains operational in a limited capacity. There is also hope that staff will be re-hired when certain matters – which were not detailed – are resolved.

“On 5th of October, Fuzzyeyes struck a deal to sell portion of shares to a third party company,” confirmed CEO Lu, Wei-Yao.

“During this transition period, Fuzzyeyes will temporarily seize further development on any project. However, our studio is still in business and the office is still open.”

In-house game development has been suspended, with the firm’s projects now outsourced to other, as yet unnamed, studios.

“Fuzzyeyes will be back in full operation after the settlement, and a number of Fuzzyeyes ex-employees have been offered a position in early 2010.”
