PSN revenues to triple in 09

Sony expects its revenues from the PlayStation Network to reach $500m in 2009 – and if this proves correct it will mean that the service has enjoyed a 300 per cent year-on-year increase.

The claim comes from executive VP Kaz Hirai, who made the bold prediction at a management strategy meeting in Tokyo.

After a slow start, PSN has really hit its stride over the last few months. As well as the recent arrival of its Video Delivery Service, we’ve also seen the likes of its PSP Minis selection and backwardly-compatibly PSOne games reach availability.

It’s also recently penned a video rental deal with Netflix for the North American market and launched an integrated Facebook app for the PS3.
