Publisher EA confirms the existence of Battlefield 3 during a financial conference

DICE studio working on third Battlefield game

EA has confirmed that Swedish game developer DICE is working on a third full instalment of the acclaimed Battlefield series.

"I’ve had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product,” said EA COO John Pleasants at a press conference attended by G4.

Speaking at the William Blair Growth Stock Conference in Chicago, Illinois, Pleasants added that the game will not be released in the fiscal year, but assured that development was going well.

Since 2002 the Mirror’s Edge developer has developed multiple Battlefield games, starting in 2002 with Battlefield 1942, and progressing through several expansions and spin-offs until the 2005 release of Battlefield 2. Since then the studio has worked on more expansions and spin-offs, including the 2008 release Bad Company, but had made no mention of a third proper instalment.

EA completed a full-scale acquisition of DICE from 2005-06 for $175.5 million.
