Indies arent dead yet, says Grainger Games

Indie Grainger Games has told MCV that it plans to open 50 stores nationwide – proving that despite recent struggles, the indie sector is still alive and kicking.

The retailer started up as a market stall in 1996 and has now progressed to boast 13 stores, located throughout the North East and Scotland.

All of our stores are in prime High Street locations including Newcastle, Sunderland and South Shields,” said purchasing director Chris Harwood.

This year we would ideally like to grow the business with the opening of another seven shops. We are looking to expand year-on-year and eventually reach a target of having 50 stores across the country.”

And the thriving indie chain added that its plans don’t just involve a High Street assault – the web is also high on its agenda.

Our online store has really taken off this year,” adds Harwood. It is progressing to do as much good business as our High Street stores.”
