UK Tax relief for games up 65 per cent in Q1

The BFI have announced that certifications for video game tax relief increased to 65 per cent in Q1 2017.

This is an increase compared to Q1 2016 as a year-on-year comparison as 58 games recieved final certification compared to 35 in 2016.

A total of 212 games have recieved tax relief in the last year, which is a 59.4 per cent increase from the 2015/16 figures.

"[Video games tax relief] is fuelling confidence and growth and is a real driving force behind the creation of innovative UK content," said director of Ukie, Dr Jo Twist. "The continued year-on-year rise of games businesses applying for Video Games Tax Relief is a clear message to government that it is critical that the funding is protected and improved over the important political period we are entering into."
