The Walking Dead: A New Frontier coming to retail on March 3rd

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier will be arriving at European retailers on March 3rd, Telltale announced today.

The game will come on a special season pass disc for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles (not Switch, sadly, despite being released on the same day as Nintendo’s new console), and will include the two-part premiere episodes as well as access to all subsequent episodes in its five episode season as they become available to download.

Telltale also revealed that the third episode in A New Frontier, entitled Episode 3: Above the Law, will arrive later next month. Its exact release date will be announced in the coming weeks.

This isn’t the first time Telltale has brought its The Walking Dead games to retail. Both the first and second seasons of The Walking Dead arrived at retail back in October 2014, and were released for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and the PS Vita. Rather than ship both seasons on one disc, however, Telltale chose to release each season in separate packages – one with the first season and the 400 Days DLC and another just for the second season.

The retail version of A New Frontier, however, will not be coming to handheld or older-gen consoles at the moment.

Despite taking place after both seasons of The Walking Dead, Telltale says the game is equally accessible to newcomers.

"The Walking Dead: A New Frontieracts as both a new beginning for players fresh to the series and unfamiliar with Clementine, as well as a continuation for players who have experienced Seasons One and Two," Telltale said in a statement.

"Players new to the series are able to start a story that is tailored to this new beginning. Players continuing onward from prior seasons have multiple options for quickly configuring their tailored backstory, or importing past save files from various platforms."

To date, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series has sold more than 50m episodes worldwide, and has garnered multiple awards from BAFTA as well as over 100 Game of the Year awards. You can watch a trailer for the retail version of the game below:
