The Dragon, Cancer dev releases new title for Google Daydream

Numinous Studios has surprised by the industry by releasing its second game out of the blue.

It’s called Untethered and, perhaps more surprisingly, is exclusive to the Google Daydream VR system. It’s best described as a mystery game with a comic twist and has players speaking to people calling into a radio station.

And by speaking, we mean literally talking to them. It uses Google’s speech recognition tech and, for the time being, only supports English.

It’s an episodic release with more episodes to follow next year.

Untethered isn’t the only Daydream exclusive to arrive from notable developers. Mike Bithell recently released space puzzler EarthShape, for instance.

However, the Daydream’s limited reach thus far has meant that it’s yet to make a big impact on the industry. Currently the tech is only compatible with Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL handsets and the recently released Lenovo Moto Z range.

Google Daydream itself is reasonably impressive for smartphone powered VR, although it has been plagued by overheating issues.
