Sony announces new PS4 Spider-Man game developed by Insomniac

The rumours were confirmed last night: a new Spider-Man game is coming to PlayStation 4, but it’s not being developed by Sucker Punch.

Sony revealed during its PlayStation E3 conference yesterday that the title is developed by Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and Sunset Overdrive studio Insomniac Games. This follows rumours that the web-swinging superhero would be coming out via Infamous studio, Sucker Punch.

So far it’s only known as ‘Spider-Man’, and the PS4 exclusive already has a trailer (see below).

Insomniac Games’ community manager Bryan Intihar said that the game will not be based on the upcoming movie: Spider-Man is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we’re thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story.”

He added: Having released Ratchet & Clank, we feel confident in our ability to create a showpiece for the console. And we’re downright giddy bringing Spidey’s acrobatic abilities, improvisation, and web-slinging to life.”
