Character creation and animation tool out now, based on patented ‘face-fitting’ technology

Reallusion’s CrazyTalk 8 lets you make 3D heads from photos

Animation tools specialist Reallusion has released a new version of its CrazyTalk software that lets devs create 3D characters from just two photographs.

CrazyTalk 8 builds on the previous iterations’ 2D animation features by introducing 3D head modelling and patented ‘face-fitting’ technology that lets users fully customise a character model generated from a headshot and side profile.

Artists will be guided through the process and can adjust every aspect of the face, from eye position and jawline to the bridge of the nose and skin texture. These can also be exaggerated to create stylised and cartoon characters, as well.

CrazyTalk also enables animate using the firm’s Auto-motion technology, which generates facial and body animation and lip sync based on your audio clip and can be customised to convey different moods and attitudes.

The technology has already been seen at work on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

CrazyTalk 8 is now available for Windows and Mac. The 2D-only Standard SKU is £39, while the 3D-enabled Pro is £109. Meanwhile CrazyTalk 8 Pipeline, which lets you export to other software such as Reallusion’s iClone, is £159.

You can find out more at Reallusion’s website.
