Vita Slim gets Australian release date

Sony is continuing its roll-out of the slimmed down Vita PCH-2000 with a launch Down Under next month.

The trimmed down handheld will launch in Australia on June 4th with an RRP of AUS$269.96 (150), which is a good 30 less than the RRP it carries in the UK.

The Vita Slim debuted – in a decent array of colours, it should be said – in Japan back in October and then hit UK shelves in February. It launched in the US last week as part of a Borderlands 2 bundle for $199.99 (that’s 120, by the way).

The device is region free, remember, so if you can find a kind importer who can avoid the wrath of the UK tax man there are bargains to be had.

The Vita Slim was criticised by some for its use of an LED screen. The ‘phat’ Vita uses an OLED panel. However, the new device offers significant gains in battery power, is substantially lighter and, as the name might suggest, is also slimmer than it predecessor.
