Netflix ups UK subscription price to £6.99

Video streaming site Netflix has upped its UK subscription price by 1 to 6.99.

However, the existing price of 5.99 for current subscribers will be frozen for two years providing their subscription remains active. It has told customers that the hike has been introduced "in order to continue adding more films and TV programmes”.

European and American prices have also been increased by €1 to €8.99 and $1 to $8.99 respectively.

Cnet adds that the video provider also plans to introduce staggered membership options.

A 5.99 subscription will offer single-screen SD streaming while a premium 8.99 package will offer video on up to four screens at anything up to 4K resolution.
