Nintendo launches indie-centric eShop hub

The Nintendo website has been updated with a new section looking to emphasize the company’s indie credentials.

Carrying the strap line Get the games you want, when you want them – over 1,000 new, classic, and indie titles to choose from”, the page leads with titles such as Steamworld Dig, Gunman Clive, Cave Story, Attack of the Friday Monsters, Moon Chronicles, Unepic and Siesta Fiesta.

With Nintendo’s first party offerings arriving slower than some are demanding and third party triple-A publishers increasingly shying away from Nintendo, indies perhaps offer Wii U and 3DS’ best bet of maintaining relevance.

Having come under fire for its non-friendly indie policies last year, Nintendo America boss Reggie Fils-Aime later insisted that Nintendo is "spending a lot more time and a lot more energy to create the infrastructure to help [indie] developers publish their content and be effective”.

The following month the company claimed to have attracted interest from over 1,000 developers.
