Develop Studio Sales Charts: February 2014

Below is Develop’s monthly breakdown of the world’s most successful games studios, measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track.

The Develop Studio Sales Charts will be published on Develop’s news pages at the end of each month.

Please note that digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK. The chart is intended to provide a snapshot of the most bankable studios in the world today.

Directly below is the basic top ten but click on the image further down for the full top 20 including the studio’s best selling title for the month and which consoles it was sold to.

UK developer Traveller’s Tales takes top spot this month, with its game tie-in to The LEGO Movie selling well across all platforms.

EA Canada took second place with the the 2014 release of its ever-reliable FIFA series, and Infinity Ward came third on the back of sales for Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Four UK studios made the list in total, including the aforementioned Traveller’s Tales, GTA V developer Rockstar North in 7th, Fable Anniversary outfit Lionhead in 12th and Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition maker 4J studios.

Just two of the companies in this month’s top 20 are independent: Game Freak and 4J Studios. The rest are publisher-owned.

The USA led the way with the most studios in the sales charts, represented by Infinity Ward, Crystal Dynamics, Visual Concepts, Turn 10 Studios, EA Tiburon and The Sims Studio.
