Xbox One could replace code redemption with QR tags

We all hate laboriously typing in those 15-digit codes that publishers and platform holders insist on using, right?

Well, those days could be numbered now that Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox One version of Kinect will be able to read QR codes, according to IGN.

Microsoft’s corporate VP for Xbox Live Marc Whitten tweeted in response to a Reddit post, which suggested Microsoft ditch the lengthy codes in favour of QR scanning.

Whitten simply replied: "Yup, this works!"

Of course, that’s not concrete proof that Microsoft will use a QR model for the Xbox One, but the possibility is there. It would mean retailers would be able to sell a card that Kinect would scan, thus quickly triggering a game download or adding currency to your Xbox account.
