GameStop issues last call for PS2 trade-ins

GameStop has announced it will no longer take trade-ins for PS2 hardware, accessories and games after this month.

In a statement to Engadget, GameStop’s corporate office confirmed rumours regarding the discontinuation of Sony’s console – adding that the systems, along with its games and accessories, will still be sold at stores until the remaining stock runs out.

"We can confirm that as of June 1st we will no longer be accepting the PS2 console or its related product for trades,” the statement read. We know that the 12 year old system is a popular one and for many gamers, GameStop is the only place to find a great selection of its games. We will still offer a wide selection of the PS2 hardware, accessories and games in many of our stores and online for several months, based on remaining stock from trades.”

We are very excited about the upcoming PS4 and are making room in our stores for it and other new platforms expected this fall."

Bottom line: PS2 goods will still be stocked for a bit, but there’s only 24 days left for those considering trading in their PS2-related products to GameStop. After May 31st, it will no longer be an option.
