Activision, EA settle Modern Warfare case

Activision and EA have agreed to file a settlement agreement in their Call of Duty dispute.

A joint statement by the two publishers requesting the settlement reads that both parties ‘have agreed to put this matter behind them.’

The case began when Infinity Ward’s Jason West and Vince Zampella sued Activision over alleged unpaid royalties and promises of creative freedom, which they claim the publisher leveraged to keep them developing more titles in the series.

Activision then filed a counter-claim naming EA as well as West and Zampella, and alleging that the publishing rival had been in contact with the pair of developers for months before their eventual defection.

News of the agreement, reported by Bloomberg, comes days after Activision paid $42 million in royalties to the Infinity Ward employee group.

The settlement doesn’t affect the claim of West and Zampella, which will go to trial as planned on May 29th after Activision’s request for a month long delay was denied by the court.
