Activision shuts down Prototype studio

Radical Entertainment, creator of the Prototype franchise, has been shut down by Activision.

GameInformer has revealed that the decision to close the studio was prompted by lacklustre sales of the open-world action franchise.

We made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, [but] it did not find a broad commercial audience,” an Activision spokesperson explained.

"Following an exploration of a wide range of options, it was determined that closing Radical Entertainment as a creative entity was the only option," the spokesperson added.

While most of the Radical staff will be let go, a small team will continue to work in a support capacity for other Activision projects.

The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and The Simpsons: Hit & Run developer was acquired by Activision in 2005, and released Prototype 2 in April.

Last year, the Call of Duty publisher shut down Bizarre Creations due to poor sales of its only release under the Activision banner – Blur.
