The World Ends With You: Final Remix coming to Nintendo Switch

The scariest thing about the announcement that The World Ends With You is coming to the Nintendo Switch is that the original game turns ten years old this year.

Our encroaching sense of mortality notwithstanding, this does mean that there are plenty of new players who won’t have even been alive when the original game comes out this year, alongside all of you devils who missed it the first time round. The World Ends With You: Final Remix is a remaster of the DS game (or possibly a re-remaster of the iPad remaster), that will take advantage of the Switch’s unique features to offer touch screen controls as well as joy con controls.

This underrated gem takes place in a hidden world layered on top of the real-world Tokyo district of Shibuya and is a rare example of an ‘urban RPG’, with weapons and armour taking the form of stylish hoodies and magical pin badges. A unique battle system and stellar soundtrack help to raise the game above being ‘just another action JRPG’. Final Remix will also feature a “sizable new scenario that gets right to the heart of the story”, which is probably the closest we’re likely to get to a sequel. Unless this sells well. Hint hint. More information, along with footage of the game (and a taste of that music) can be found in today’s Nintendo Direct Mini.
