Amazon expands one-hour delivery to third UK city

The North-East is the latest UK region to gain Amazon’s Prime Now delivery service.

The speedy postage, which claims to offer one-hour delivery on over 15,000 items from the online retailer, previously launched in London and Birmingham earlier this year.

Now Amazon users in Newcastle, covering Gateshead, Jesmond and High Heaton postcodes, can also pay 6.99 to have their purchase delivered within an hour. Two-hour slots are also available.

Among the items Amazon highlights as available to be delivered within an hour are impulse purchase staples such as Chicago Town pizzas, Birds Eye fish fingers and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

It added that one of the fastest Amazon Prime Now orders to date was the 14-minute delivery of a USB cable and set of replacement toothbrush heads to a customer in Morden.
