Assassin’s Creed: Pirates goes free-to-play on smartphones

Ubisoft has altered the payment model for Assassin’s Creed: Pirates on iOS and Android.

The mobile title is now free to download on both platforms, although of course there are a range of in-game purchases available once you get going.

The news coincides with the release of new content ‘Cold Blood’ that takes the game to the Arctic, connecting it to the snowy naval them of upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 title Assassin’s Creed: Rogue.

On PS4 and Xbox One the series has for the time being turned its back on the high seas, with Assassin’s Creed: Unity opting instead for a distinctly sea-free Parisian setting.

Unity and Rogue will both be released on November 11th.

Assassin’s Creed: Pirates was released in December for $4.99.
