Bandai Namco launches Galaga Tekken crossover

An unlikely union of brands has arrived on iOS to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tekken series.

Available now on iOS and Android, Galaga: Tekken 20th Anniversary Edition takes the traditional shooter and replaces the ships with Tekken characters. It also offers some extra mechanics, such as the ability to ‘tag’ in other characters for double damage.

Furthermore, the game is free – as in, properly free, with no IAPs or anything.

Tekken is one of our longest running franchises and has enjoyed a strong fan following for two decades,” Tekken’s game director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada said.

With Galaga: Tekken 20TH Anniversary Edition, we wanted to give our fans something unexpected to celebrate such a huge milestone for Tekken. The crossover gameplay is sure to surprise and delight both Tekken and Galaga fans.”

Tekken was first released in 1994 in arcades before eventually arriving on PlayStation. It has gone on to produce a further nine games, the most recent of which was arcade release Tekken 7 last month.

Galaga, meanwhile, debuted in the arcades in 1981.
