Colorgrave’s Kickstarter for Claire a la Mode smashed it’s $10K goal within two hours, and is now funding stretch goals

Colorgrave’s Claire a la Mode Kickstarter campaign has been fully funded within its first two hours, and the team is now gathering additional funding for stretch goals that include additional campaigns, full voice acting and a Nintendo Switch console version of the game.

Claire a la Mode is described as ‘a retro arcade platforming adventure’, and will see Claire and a variety of other characters face off against the villainous Queen Bee and test their skills in a high stakes worldwide bake-off.  A demo for the title is currently available on the Steam store.

Colorgrave is an independent game development team best known for Game Boy Color-inspired games like Prodigal and Curse Crackers. At the time of writing, Claire a la Mode is set to be the team’s fifth game release.

“I gotta say, it absolutely caught us by surprise that the Kickstarter hit its goal of $10k within the first two hours of us launching it. I think all of us on the team thought we’d be fighting an uphill battle getting there, since anybody who’s ever heard us talk about our experiences would know how hard of a time we usually have getting coverage and spreading the word,” said Brendan Steppig (Looloopaa), lead pixel artist at Colorgrave, when asked about their crowdfunding success.

“While that second part might remain true (we’ll see!) we’re incredibly blessed to have a super passionate and supportive community. I don’t have the time or am privy to the knowledge of all they’ve done to try and help get our games out there, but if it weren’t for them we’d be cooked! So it’s both humbling and gratifying to see that so concretely. It also also kind of knocked the wind out of us a bit – we’re not sure what to do now that we’re past that first part, you know?

“If there’s one thing we’re used to at this point it’s scrambling to keep the plates spinning, so we’ll figure something out over the next few days for sure! Hopefully everyone won’t have to wait too long for the game, either! Barring us really smashing the stretch goals, our hope is to have the thing finished before the end of the year. We had to do a lot of re-tooling to make the game better, but in some ways its also made things a little easier in terms of finishing it up!

“Mhin’s been cranking out levels and I’m sure we’ll be ready to start going through those here pretty soon. Hopefully folks will really have a good time with it. Even playing it myself, it’s probably some of the most fun I’ve had with one of our games for a while! Of course, we already have some things planned past this game as well. While a lot of the backend work was being done for Claire, we got a good chunk of work finished (or mostly finished at least!) for the next game, and we’ve got a few ideas after that, and so on and so on. The only thing that’ll stop us easily is running out of money or death, and even then I feel like we’d still be making games in the afterlife, hah!”
