DS sales hit 70m worldwide

Nintendo has reported that sales of its Nintendo DS console have hit 70.6 million units worldwide as part of its end-of-year fiscal results.

30.31 million units – over a third – were sold during its FY 2007-2008, which ended on March 31st.

The FY result is up 7.1 per cent on the total in 2006-2007, when the firm reported 23.56 million sales.

This year’s DS sales exceeded Nintendo’s expectations.

The platform holder also revealed that there are now 57 DS games with over 1 million sales, including Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Brain Age 1 and 2, Nintendogs and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

The figure has grown from the 30 reported in its previous financial year.

Earlier, MCV reported that Nintendo’s FY operating profit had doubled year-on-year –

with net profit up 47.7 per cent
