E3 08: Xbox will beat PS3

Microsoft boss Don Mattrick has told the global games media that Xbox 360 will sell more consoles than PlayStation 3 – and that gaming is now the leading form of entertainment.

When it comes to hardware, we’re in fantastic shape. According to NPD data, we have the largest installed base in the US, and we are at least five million ahead of PS3. Software sales reached $2.7 billion over last year. Third-party games revenue on Xbox 360 outpaced the Wii and PS3 combined in the last twelve months.”

Xbox 360 will sell more worldwide than PS3. We will do this by having a selection of consoles with prices for everyone.”

Elaborating on the theme of gaming taking over as the entertainment form of choice, he added:

We are ready for our biggest year ever. Consumers have spent 48 billion dollars on games worldwide – that’s bigger than DVD, and bigger than the box office. Games are now leading entertainment form."

Speaking after demos of Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War 2, the platform holder also unveiled its brand new Wii-style user interface and Avatar system – check back on MCVUK.com later for the full details.
