UPDATE: ‘Fallout: Shadow of Boston’ trademark application unearthed

A new trademark application filed by Bethesda for Fallout: Shadow of Boston” has surfaced, which many are now convinced is the name for the next title in the popular post-apocalyptic RPG series.

The submission – spotted by a user on games discussion board NeoGAF – was registered by Bethesda Softworks LLC in Germany, under the terms computer game discs,” downloadable computer game programs,” and computer game programs downloaded via the internet.”

Not much more info beyond that, but that doesn’t seem to matter to those hoping to get their hands on the franchise’s next installment. At the time of this writing, Shadow of Boston” is the top trending term on Twitter.

If the aforementioned proves to be true, the Boston setting shouldn’t come as much as a surprise – documents leaked back in December 2013 seemed to confirm the New England backdrop for the unannounced title.

UPDATE: Bethesda has jumped on Twitter to shoot down the validity of the trademark registration:

"The German trademark filing that’s making the rounds is a hoax. This didn’t come from our offices."
