Wii iPlayer usage on the up

The Nintendo Wii enjoyed an increase in iPlayer use in February and now accounts for four per cent of the service’s total usage.

iPlayer requests from Wii owners grew to 3.2m last month, up from the 2.8m in the month before. The numbers continue to upwards trend for Wii since its iPlayer functionality was given a re-jig last November.

PS3 market share is higher, though, sticking at six per cent for the third month in succession. Both PS3 and Wii outperform the iPhone, which currently accounts for four per cent of requests.

The PC remains the dominant iPlayer platform, claiming 59 per cent of all usage. Virgin Media’s integrated iPlayer functionality in its set-top boxes accounts for 21 per cent.

In total BBC is currently delivering 3.5m iPlayer sessions a day.
