Wii Speak discontinued?

UPDATE: Nintendo has issued the following statement to MCV:

"We’re still supplying Wii Speak and it’s still very much available should retail want to order it."

The product is still listed as ‘discontinued’ on both the US and UK Amazon websites.

ORIGINAL STORY: Wii Speak – which allows gamers to chat with friends online – looks as if it may have been discontinued by Nintendo.

An Amazon listing for the accessory states: Discontinued by manufacturer: Yes.”

The product page was spotted by GoNintendo and is on the online retailer’s American website, however Amazon.co.uk is also listing Wii Speak as discontinued.

The news comes following reports on Bitmob that Conduit 2 developer High Voltage was told by Nintendo not to use Wii Speak in its upcoming game. Instead, the firm is using third party Headbanger headset for its multiplayer modes that utilise online chat.

Wii Speak went on sale in the UK in December 2008. It is compatible with a handful of games including The Conduit, NHL 2K10 and Monster Hunter Tri.

MCV has contacted Nintendo for clarification.
