Crysis 2 confirmed for consoles

Publisher EA has confirmed that it has entered into an agreement with developer Crytek to publish its upcoming shooter Crysis 2 on both Xbox 360 and PS3 – as well as the already announced PC release.

Examples of Crytek’s game engine, dubbed the CryENGINE3, had previously been shown running on both Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles, but this is the first official confirmation that the game is definitely heading to consoles.

The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli stated.

This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

Those in know have hinted at CryENGINE3 finally being the software that shows off PS3’s technical superiority to Xbox 360 – something that the tough-to-code-for console has to date struggled to demonstrate.
