Daniel Radcliffe tipped to star in BBC’s Grand Theft Auto drama

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is allegedly in negotiations to play Sam Houser in the BBC’s upcoming drama about GTA makers Rockstar.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the show will focus on the tussle between Houser and notorious disbarred lawyer Jack Thompson, who last decade fought to have the GTA series banned in the US. Thompson has apparently yet to be cast.

British director Owen Harries, who directed the opening episode of the second series of Black Mirror entitled ‘Be Right Back’, has apparently been put in charge of the project. He’s just finished work on his first film Kill Your Friends, starring Nicholas Hoult and James Corden.

James Wood is writing the script, which is based on David Kushner’s book ‘Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto’. Jim Spencer is producing and Mark Hedgecoe serving as executive producer.

Apparently the project is currently running under the name ‘Grand Theft Auto’. Previously it had been called ‘Rockstar Games’ and the title could yet change again, the site adds. Shooting is set to kick off later this month.

The show itself was announced last month as part of a season of programs accompanying the Make It Digital initiative.
