Dragon’s Dogma storms Japanese charts, breaks records

Capcom’s open-world Dragon’s Dogma has debuted at the top of the Japanese software charts.

It sold a fantastic 302,040 units on PS3 with an additional 29,024 units on Xbox 360. The two SKUs claimed first and fifth in the software charts respectively.

Even more impressively, the game becomes the fastest selling new IP release of this console generation, vindicating the huge development resource Capcom put into the title.

Dragon’s Dogma debuted at No.3 in the UK charts on Monday.

Other new Japanese chart entries this week include Nintendo’s Mario Tennis Open (3rd), Sega’s new Vita release Samurai & Dragon’s and Cave’s Xbox 360 retro shooter Mushihimesama in 19th.

The hardware charts remained largely unchanged, with 3DS bossing the rest (55.2k) followed by PS3 (14.8k), PSP (10.6k), Vita (6.7k) and Wii (1.6k).
