Fable III ditches Kinect support

It seems that upcoming RPG Fable III will not now support Xbox 360’s motion camera Kinect, delivering a big blow to the peripheral’s hardcore-audience credentials.

It was announced in October 2009 that the game would include some sort of Kinect functionality. Since then the Lionhead title had been more or less the sole representative from the traditional Xbox 360 market to support the device.

However, speaking to Joystiq last night Microsoft Game Studios’ European creative director Peter Molyneux stated that the initial ideas they had for Kinect in the game simply weren’t up to standard.

He did add, however, that possible post-release DLC could add Kinect features to the game at some stage in the future.

Some industry observers are of the strong belief that Kinect must find a way of tapping into Xbox 360’s established hardcore gamer market if it wishes to sell in significant numbers.
