Games boost Virgin Megastores in US

Though it only has ten remaining stores in North America, Virgin Megastores has announced Q4 growth of 11.5 per cent in the territory compared to the same period in the year before.

Video game sales increased by 111.9 per cent, ahead of the 18.1 per cent rise in DVD sales and 23 per cent drop in music trading. Music now only account for 40 per cent of the chain’s business, down from 70 per cent four years ago.

"It is the second consecutive year that sales have way exceeded our expectations," Virgin Entertainment Group North America CEO Simon Wright stated.

"We started seeing positive results in 2006 from our diversification strategy and the sales in those departments continued to climb throughout 2007. Virgin Megastores are being recognised as an entertainment lifestyle destination, rather than solely a music retailer."
