Gears of War: Judgment goes big on IAP

Friday release Gears of War: Judgment will offer an array of XP-boosting in-app-payment options for gamers.

Videogamer reports that the entry-level purchase costs 80 Microsoft Points (around 70p) for which gamers receive double XP for ten games.

320 MSP (2.75) buys a 50-match long boost, 560 MSP (4.80) a 100-match boost and 800 MSP (6.85) a 200-match boost.

Alternatively the 1,600 MSP (13.70) VIP Pass allows access to a select number of permanently double-XP offering playlists.

The news comes at a time when IAPs and freemium payment models are riding upon a wave of vocal unpopularity – although that in no way means the functionality won’t earn big money for Microsoft, of course.

Gears of War: Judgment is just the latest in an increasingly long line of IAP-offering triple-A console games that includes Halo 4, Dead Space 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
