Improbable’s SpatialOS Unity devkit allows creation of 200-player FPS out of the box

Improbable has announced – and launched – the Spatial OS Game Development Kit (GDK), a Unity integration that brings with it a brand new open source FPS project with an out of the box template for a 200-player online shooter.

Integrating as it does with Unity, existing developers on the platform will already be familiar with the regular tweaks and changes they can implement –but the Spatial OS GDK brings with it a series of elements specific to the package and engine, allowing for greater customisation than before.

Paul Thomas, global head of product marketing at Improbable, said: “It’s never been easier for Unity developers to build games with SpatialOS. Improbable has been a news factory in recent months, from receiving a $100m (£76m) investment from NetEase, through hiring ex-Bioware GM Aaryn Flynn and setting up a North American office, to most recently moving into a larger London HQ.
