Killzone 3 makes surprise F2P move

Sony has announced that it is to trial a new free-to-play version of popular FPS hit Killzone 3.

As of next week a free download will be available on PSN for PS3 owners. It will contain the entire multiplayer portion of the game, including all the available maps.
However, it will be limited. The total number of available skills and weapons will be limited and there will be an artificial cap on levelling.

Those who wish to upgrade to the ‘full’ experience will be able to do so for a discounted price – $14.99 in the US.

It’s an interesting experiment in a sector that still doggedly hangs on to the traditional full-price console model.
