Friday the 13th online multiplayer game due out next Autumn

The already vast Friday the 13th franchise is about to get a little bit bigger.

Joining 12 films, a television show, books, comics and pretty much any type of tie-in merchandise you can imagine based on the exploits of hockey masked killer Jason Voorhees is Friday the 13th: The Game.

Initially under development as multiplayer horror title Slasher Vol.1: Summer Camp, the Friday the 13th game will similarly utilise online multiplayer.

The core mode will pitch one player as Jason against seven other human players, who take control of camp counsellors attempting to avoid their prescribed death by machete.

A Kickstarter for the title has also been launched, which will raise funds towards ‘expanding the scope of the game and giving backers the ability to be a part of the franchise forever’.

The title is being created as part of a collaboration between Crystal Lake Entertainment, Gun Media and IllFonic.

"As you can imagine, the conversion from Slasher Vol.1: Summer Camp to Friday the 13th: The Game was a dream come true for our entire team," said Gun Media’s Ronnie Hobbs.

"One-versus-seven asymmetrical multiplayer is a perfect fit for this franchise, and we can’t wait to share our creation with fans across the world."

It’s set for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in Autumn 2016 – making a Halloween launch date quite likely.
