Hackers attack Operation Supply Drop charity drive

Military fund drive 8-Bit Salute of Operation Supply Drop was attacked by hackers over the weekend, organizers have confirmed.

The charity’s main URL was hit with a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack less than 30 minutes into the event. The site had since been restored after the initial attack, but was subsequently taken down again.

"Odds are this will happen again over the next 24 hours,” organizers wrote in an email to backers.

Even with the main site down, Operation Supply Drop is still able to accept Paypal donations via donations@operationsupplydrop.org. Rooster Teeth is also offering a related poster, with all proceeds going directly to OSD.

Operation Supply Drop was created by a former Army captain of eight years. It focuses on boosting morale for service members deployed to combat zones or recovering in military hospitals by collecting and donating various gaming packages. The charity has raised $750k in games and hardware since its formation.
