IGN and 1UP merger likely

There’s no official confirmation as of yet, but it looks likely that an announcement is looming confirming that acquisition of media network UGO at the hands of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.

This would mean the likely merger, at least behind the scenes, for two of gaming’s biggest websites – News Corp’s IGN and UGO’s 1UP.

Furthermore, AllThingsDigital reports that News Corp plans to spin off IGN Entertainment into a separate business that will be headed up by IGN head Roy Bahat.

It will also house all the other brands that would be brought together as part of the deal, including 1UP.com, GameVideos.com and digital retail portal Direct2Drive.
