Record numbers of consumers and press pile into the Koelnmesse for world's largest games show

‘Next-gen’ Gamescom draws 340,000

Gamescom 2013 boasted a record number of attendees this year as the conference hosted its first ever head-to-head of two major new consoles.

The world’s largest game conference takes place every year alongside GDC Europe in the beautiful Koelnmesse exhibition center in Cologne, Germany, drawing thousands of attendees from both the consumer audience and industry members.

Over 340,000 visitors came to the five-day show, which focused heavily on the ‘next generation of gaming’ as promised by the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This is an increase of 23 percent from last year, with attendees hailing from 88 nations.

There were over 635 exhibitors from 40 countires presenting a total of 400 world premier titles occupying a floor space of 140,000 square meters.

As always, Gamescom played host to a staggering number of journalists from around the world. Over 6,000 press members from 61 nations attended the show – an increase of 15 percent.

“This was games entertainment and business in a new dimension,” said Koelnmesse GmbH president and CEO Gerald Böse.

“The Gamescom 2013 in Cologne has clearly underlined its position as the largest games trade fair. As organizers of the fair, we are delighted about this success and would like to thank the affiliated sponsor of the Gamescom, the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) as well as the national and international exhibitors and partners.”
