Television network CBS acquires rights to new series

Report: Draw Something TV show in the works

Zynga’s mobile sensation Draw Something is to be made into a TV show, according to a report.

Variety claims that US television network CBS has won a bidding war to air a pilot based on the app

The new series has been created by Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Embassy Row.

The show’s premise will see celebrities take on the general public in front of a studio audience, with cash prizes available to the winner. Viewers from home will also reportedly be able to participate.

The TV adaptation of the hit app isn’t expected to launch till the beginning of 2013 at the earliest.

CBS, Sony and RSP declined to comment.

Draw Something exploded in popularity earlier this year, attracting more than 14 million daily active users at its peak.

The runaway success of the app convinced Zynga to purchase developer OMGPOP for $210m, with the title thought to be making its creators $100,000 a day before the buyout.

Since Zynga’s acquisition however, there has been a steep decline in daily active users, which now stands at approximately five million.
