Samsung and Oculus’ Gear VR hits 1m users

Over one million people have used Samsung’s Gear VR headset in the last month.

That’s according to Oculus’ blog, which says that in the six months since its mobile VR headset hit shelves over one million people used the new tech.

Note – this does not necessarily mean that one million people have bought the headset, just that over one million have used it.

Oculus also notes that video is one of the most popular app categories used on the Gear VR, with seven in ten of the most-used apps being used for video. 80 per cent of users watch video content each day.

Big companies are releasing VR video content, too, with Discovery VR launching a Deadliest Catch ‘video experience’ for the platform. Meanwhile, Felix & Paul Studios is debuting a 360 3D VR series called Nomads.

And Facebook – the firm who owns Oculus – is rolling out 360-degree photos for both its news feed and VR ‘in the coming weeks’.

The VR giant is also revising its Oculus Home and mobile apps for Gear VR.
