SpecialEffect’s GameBlast16 kicks off tomorrow

A 24-hour Twitch stream kicking off tomorrow hopes to raise money for the really very wonderful SpecialEffect.

The event is called GameBlast16. It will be broadcast live on Twitch from the Cambridge HQ of Runescape developer Jagex. Activities include the 1,000 litre gunging of the Runescape dev team, who will also host the festivities. They’ll get a dunking every time an extra 5,000 is raised.

Also on the cards are auctions for exclusive collectables and tech items, while a number of streamers will be present including B0aty, Skillspecs, Dardan, and Justice.

It all kicks off on 12:00 noon on Friday February 26th. You can check out the stream here.

It’s easy to support GameBLast16 in other ways, too. Gamers can donate 5 to SpecialEffect by texting RSGB90 5 to 70070. There’s also a Just Giving page.

Jagex and the team behind the insanely popular RuneScape were a founding partner of GameBlast,” SpecialEffect founder and director Mick Donegan said. So far their staff and fanatical communities have raised over 120,000 for SpecialEffect and that’s helped us put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games.

During GameBlast15, it was a real privilege to be invited to be part of their bonkers but brilliant 24-hour stream and we’d love to see as many gamers tuning into this year’s stream. Well, who doesn’t want to see a game developer getting covered in unicorn poo for a good cause?”
