Megaupload founder is world’s top Modern Warfare 3 player

In a somewhat cruel coincidence, the world’s best Modern Warfare 3 player may also be the man responsible for the lion’s share of the game’s piracy.

Kim Dotcom (born Kim Schmitz) posted a video online showing that his Xbox 360 user account MEGARACER is the highest rated in the world on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The irony, of course, is that the site he founded was arguably responsible for sharing more illegal copies of the game than any other.

Dotcom’s file-sharing portal Megaupload was last week closed by US authorities following accusations of piracy.

Today it was revealed that the German has been denied bail in New Zealand, where he was arrested in his mansion last week.

Bloomberg reports that the arrest itself was not straightforward, with police having to cut their way through electronic locks to detain Dotcom, who had hidden himself in a safe room with a shotgun.

The authorities also claim that Dotcom had in the region of NZ$11m scattered across various accounts, as well as a fleet of luxury cars including a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe. Other cars had personal registration plates saying ‘God’, ‘Stoned’ and ‘Guilty’.

One wall of his mansion is said to contain a large graffiti-style painting of Dotcom and his wife and seven 60” TV screens.
